Quarterback Jake Waters will start for Kansas State,
coach Bill Snyder said. He beat out sophomore Daniel Sams. Snyder said both quarterbacks
will play against North Dakota State Friday.
“Jake just displayed more consistency in all the areas we talked about — managing the offense, being able to provide the kind of leadership we want as well as the actual physical aspect of it,” Snyder said. “He invested himself and he truly worked at it extremely hard and did above and beyond what he was asked for,” Snyder said. “He invested a lot of his time and showed a degree of consistency that helped him and helped us.”
Sams missed some practice, Snyder said, which slowed him down. Snyder didn’t say why Sams missed practice.
Waters threw for 3,501 yards and 39 touchdowns (and just three interceptions) for Iowa Western Community College while leading the team to a national title.
He replaces Collin Klein, who led the Wildcats in total offense in 2012.
