Texas junior quarterback David Ash (head) has been ruled out for Thursday night's game against Iowa State this week. Junior offensive tackle Josh Cochran (shoulder) will also miss the game and, like Ash, will not travel to Ames this week.
Ash missed the Longhorns' loss to Ole Miss last month after suffering a concussion and right shoulder injury the previous week before returning to start against Kansas State two weekends ago. He did not play in the second half against the Wildcats, however, after suffering another head injury.
Senior quarterback Case McCoy will make his second start this year while freshman Tyrone Swoopes, who has been taking second-team reps for the last three weeks, will be McCoy's backup.
Senior wide receiver Mike Davis (ankle) is a game-time decision. He missed the Longhorns' last game, a win over Kansas State two weekends ago.
McCoy is 3-4 in his Longhorns career as a starting quarterback and has not won as a starter since a 27-25 victory over Texas A&M two seasons ago. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 196 yards in a 44-23 loss to Ole Miss, his only other start this season.
With Texas already holding a sizable lead when McCoy took over for Ash after halftime against Kansas State, McCoy wasn't needed as much, going 5-for-9 with 59 yards. He came into this season having been picked off seven times in his last 97 attempts but has yet to commit a turnover this year.
