After serving a one-game suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules, sophomore Daje Johnson will return for Texas in its regular season finale against Baylor this Saturday.
Johnson missed two games earlier this year against Ole Miss and Kansas State with an ankle injury and was not 100 percent healthy until the Longhorns' win over Oklahoma, when he had a game-changing 85-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Johnson established himself as the team's punt returner in that game but may have lost his job a month later in Texas' loss to Oklahoma State. He fielded a punt over his shoulder inside the 10-yard line and was stopped inside the 20-yard line on three different kickoff returns. Johnson was held to two catches for 12 yards and one rush for one yard in the 38-13 defeat.
Texas beat Texas Tech, 41-16, last Thursday without Johnson, who was listed as the Longhorns' backup punt returner behind Quandre Diggs, a backup wide receiver behind Jaxon Shipley and a co-starter as a kick returner. Johnson is third on the team this season with 728 all-purpose yards, averaging 9.8 yards per touch.
