ARLINGTON – LeBron James created a national stir some two months ago when he named his Mount Rushmore of the all-time great NBAA players.
Included on James’ list were Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson. But then, James also said he would add his own name to Mount Rushmore, adding that one of the aforementioned foursome would have to be knocked off the mountain.
To that, Robertson said: “I don’t think LeBron even knows who put the statues on Mount Rushmore. You know it was put up by someone in the Ku Klux Klan.
“I don’t think he checked into that at all.’’
Gutzon Borglum, who was commissioned to design Mount Rushmore, is belived to have been a member of the KKK.
At AT&T Stadium on Friday to hand Creighton forward Doug McDermott the Oscar Robertson college Player of the Year award, Robertson was indifferent to James’ Mount Rushmore of players.
“If that’s what he says who’s up there, that’s fine,’’ Robertson said. “It doesn’t really mean anything.
“What about Mount Kilimanjaro? They only have one spot up there.’’
