TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said he has not been contacted by Stanford or any other school about taking a similar job.
Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby will be introduced at 10 a.m. Friday as the Big 12 Conference's new commissioner. Del Conte, who attended college in California, says he is building a house near TCU and has no plans to leave.
“I love our chancellor [Victor Boschini], I think he’s the very best in the business, and I want to be at TCU," he said. "As long as the chancellor and board of trustees, our coaches, and donors want me to work for them I’ll be at TCU.”
Del Conte called the hiring of Bowlsby “phenomenal.”
“I’ve known Bob for a long time,” he said. “I think his experience in the Big 10 and the Pac 12, he’s a well-respected AD. I think it’s a perfect hire for the Big 12. I’m excited to work with him in the coming years.”
Del Conte said the Big 12 has been working on finding the right person since January. Bowlsby replaces interim commissioner Chuck Neinas beginning June 15.
“I don’t think it was as quick as you think,” Del Conte said. “There was a process going for the last six months.”
