Rams still advance

Texas Wesleyan lost in the Red River Athletic Conference finals, but its season isn't over.

Rams advance

Texas Wesleyan (40-13) lost to Northwood University 18-9, but responded with an 11-4 win over UT-Brownsville to reach the finals of the Red River Athletic Conference tournament in Brownsville.
The Rams will get a rematch today with Northwood.
Texas Wesleyan must win twice to claim a second straight conference title. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m., with the second at 6 p.m. if needed. -Trae

Rams rewrite record books

Texas Wesleyan (31-12) isn't done with rewriting the records.
The Rams defeated Southwestern Assembies of God 16-1 on Friday, and tied three records in the game. Texas Wesleyan finished with 23 hits, tying a school record for the second time this season, and also matched the school record for doubles in a game with eight.
Senior pitcher Hayden Lackey (pictured) also tied an NAIA national record by making the 95th relief appearance of his career. He tied the mark set by Jason Elkins at North Georgia (2000-2002).

Pitcher honored

Texas Wesleyan senior pitcher Steven DeFratus has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row.
DeFratus (pictured), who previously played at Cal State Northridge, threw his second straight complete-game shutout and allowed just one hit while striking out two, as the Rams defeated College of the Southwest (NM) 10-0 in five innings.
DeFratus is 6-2 on the season, and has a 2.64 ERA in 44 1/3 innings. -Trae Thompson
