Phillips Clears the Air

Not Wade, but his son, Wes.

There have been various reports that Wade's son, Baylor assistant coach Wes Phillips, will join the Cowboys' staff soon. It may happen, but nothing has happened. Not yet. Not according to Wes.

"My head coach (Guy Morriss) is saying, 'Are you interviewing for a job?'" Phillips said. "Not that I know of. I think they'd definitely look at other positions before they would get to someone on my level. As far as I know, I haven't been contacted."

Phillips sounds like he wouldn't mind following in his dad's footsteps. Wade was hired by his father, Bum, as a defensive assistant coach with the Oilers in the '70s. Until then, he had been a college assistant.

"Things we talked about in the past, not recently, about how I would love the opportunity to work with him," Wes Phillips said."He has fond memories of working with his dad. That is something I've thought about, but at this point it's not something we've discussed."
