Greg Ellis and Jerry Jones finally talk

Beleaguered linebacker Greg Ellis and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talked for about an hour on Monday, Ellis confirmed Tuesday evening.

The conversation has been a long time coming since Ellis has been trying to talk with Jones about a new contract for more than two months.

Ellis wouldn't give any details about the conversation, but did say something could be happening by Friday.

Terrell Owens misses practice

Receiver Terrell Owens missed Tuesday afternoon's practice to rest a sore hamstring, according to the team's trainers.

Today's development conjures up memories of last year's training camp when Owens injured his hamstring and began a stretch of 14 consecutive missed workouts, including the preseason opener at Seattle.

Three days after returning to practice, he aggravated his hamstring and missed the next two preseason games before making his debut in the fourth and final preseason game against Minnesota.

This doesn't appear to be the same situation, but it's worth noting.

T.O. No Practice

Terrell Owens is not in pads this afternoon at practice. His teammates are wearing their pads.

Whether this is injury related we don't know yet. The Cowboys could be just holding him out.

But both he and fellow starting receiver Terry Glenn are on the sidelines for this practice. Glenn is nursing a sore knee.

Terrell Owens and I have had an on again off again relationship since he joined the team last year. You know, he is cool with me if he likes what I write and he is not cool with me if he doesn't. We had one of those moments during special teams drills on Monday when Owens walked to hhe sideline and chatted up former Cowboys running back Calvin Hill. He turned and looked at me standing behind them and then playfully tossed an empty Gatorade bottle at me. Glenn scared

Wide receiver Terry Glenn didn't practice on Monday and is listed as day to day after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's practice. While he wants to be on the field, Glenn counts his situation as a blessing. He has what is being termed a knee strain. A thankful Glenn immediately feared the worst when he initially went down in practice on Sunday. Glenn said he heard something pop and thought he was through for the season. But results from a magnetic resonance imaging exam Sunday  night came back negative. Clarence E. Hill  Jr.

Flozell returns

Left tackle Flozell Adams practiced for first time since the start of training camp. Adams underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee two months ago and the Cowboys were being cautious with him. Although he didn't participate in all the drills and was admittedly rusty with his technique, it was a good first day for Adams. The knee held up and he experienced no pain. Dog issues at Cowboys camp

DeMarcus Ware’s wife, Taniqua, has nothing in common with Michael Vick. She is a dog lover. She brought her two dogs here to training camp.  After a couple of days she decided the Marriott Hotel and the San Antonio Riverwalk was no place for dogs. She said there was little grass surrounding the hotel so there was no place to walk her dogs. On Thursday she put the dogs on a plane and sent them to her sister in Abilene. They will stay there until she returns from camp.

Cowboys release backup Baker

The Cowboys cut practice squad quarterback Matt Baker Thursday to make room for the signings of first-round pick Anthony Spencer and third-round pick James Marten.

Baker spent all of the 2006 season on the Cowboys' practice squad.

Ellis on sidelines

Linebacker Greg Ellis did not practice Thursday morning. Instead, he was on the sidelines doing strength and conditioning drills.

Ellis, who is coming off a torn left Achilles' tendon suffered in November, participated in one drill Wednesday before taking himself out of practice for the remainder of the day.

Cowboys, Spencer agree to terms

The Cowboys have come to terms with first-round draft pick Anthony Spencer, club executive vice president Stephen Jones said Thursday.

Spencer, who played defensive end at Purdue University, is scheduled to play linebacker.

Negotiations continue with only one draft choice, third-rounder James Marten.
