Former Cowboys teammates Ron Springs and Everson Walls announced Tuesday afternoon that they have formed the "Gift For Life Foundation". It's a foundation that aspires to teach people about organ donation.
Walls donated one of his kidneys to Springs, who is a diabetic, on February 28.
"It doesn't hamper your lifestyle at all," Walls said. "Becoming a living organ donor is something that is attainable for everyone."
During a press conference also attended by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Walls and Springs both discussed how the news of the transplant changed both of their lives. Both in terms of the popularity of the story, and eventual desire to make it something bigger than just themselves.
Springs and Walls will serve as honorary captains for the Cowboys before the season opener, on Sept. 9 against the Giants at Texas Stadium.
