The Cowboys have officially announced the hiring of Reggie Herring as the new linebackers coach. Herring was recently named defensive coordinator at Texas A&M in January and will be returning to the NFL.
Herring, a former defensive coordinator at TCU from 1992-93, was the interim head coach for Arkansas in the 2008 Cotton Bowl. He replaces Paul Pasqualoni, who left to become the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins.
Herring also has ties to Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart. The two worked together on the Houston Texans staff in 2002-2003 when Herring served as linebackers coach.
The hiring of Herring fills the final void of three defensive vacancies on Wade Phillips' staff. But Phillips could be looking add another assistant to coach the secondary along with Dave Campo.
