Cowboys nose tackle Jason Ferguson's short three-year career in Dallas is over. He has been traded to Miami and will reunite with Bill Parcells and defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers. Now, there's no longer a log-jam at nose tackle.
Jay Ratliff took advantage of the opportunity big time when Ferguson suffered a torn biceps in the opener. Ratliff's got a new contract and his backup is cheap. Tank Johnson signed a two-year deal last season for the league minimum. Ferguson's departure creates about $2.4 million in salary cap space.
Ferguson's departure will be a tough loss in the locker room. He was often the center of the attention among teammates and could have the whole room laughing on the floor. But it was his unique big ol' belly laugh, with shoulders heaving, that was unforgettable and surely missed by teammates.
Ferguson has recovered well from his injury and is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
