Cowboys third-string QB Richard Bartel now has to sit and wait on his uncertain future. Will he be back or not? Bartel doesn't know what the Cowboys are going to do because he doesn't know exactly what they are looking for -- more experienced third guy (like Chris Simms) or a young one making progress.
The Grapevine Mustang product is coming off his first start (28-of-41 for 233 yards, no TDs or INTs) since his playing days at Tarleton State and felt good about his performance. It wasn't bad and he avoided mistakes, but he also didn't take a lot of chances. Bartel stuck mostly with the safe stuff and managed a 16-10 victory playing the entire game. He was also getting clobbered in the pocket, so his OL didn't do him a lot of favors in the second half.
Bartel soaked in the moment and left the field with the game ball and dealt with the crunch of media at his locker. The Cowboys would probably like to put him back on the practice squad if he could clear waivers. We'll see.
