Are you Cowboys fans ready for a special teams boost? Former special teams captain Keith Davis has reached a contract agreement to return to the Dallas Cowboys. Davis, who left as a free agent for the Dolphins in the offseason, was released by Bill Parcells and Co. surprisingly last week allowing the reunion for the Italy native to become possible.
Davis has not yet signed as the the Cowboys must make room for him on the roster. Dallas could release OT James Marten or CB Alan Ball to free a spot.
What does KD's return mean? The Cowboys would hope he could clean up their coverage issues. He is a leader and difference maker assistant Bruce Read is missing and always talks about missing. Should help with a little job security for the coach too.
Now, I know the coverage teams struggled at times with Davis last year. But in his defense he was dealing with a torn pectoral muscle for most of the year. Davis also can't come back to town wanting a starting role because there's not one for him here. His speciality is special teams and he could be a valuable new piece for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
