No comment on T.O. from Stephen Jones

I caught up with Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones at the Mavs game last night and tried to ask him about the rumors and speculation regarding his stance on the Terrell Owens controversy.

According to a recent report, Jones was expected to lobby his dad/owner Jerry Jones to ship Owens out of Dallas.

Asked about his role in the looming Owens' decision, Jones said "no comment."

Now Jones should be savvy enough to know that a "no comment" often gives one the assumption the question at hand is true and the person doesn't want to talk about it.  If  it wasn't true the person would simply say so.

Could Jones' "no comment" mean that he just doesn't want to talk about the Owens situation, considering that a gag order has been issued at the Cowboys' Valley Ranch headquarters?

Perhaps.

But he also could easily shoot down a false report that has him fingered as the guy who will help usher Owens out the door without betraying anybody's trust.

You decide.

And of course there's the little matter of the recent blog by Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports from the Pro Bowl where he says Jerry Jones has had several players over at his Highland Park home in recent days trying to see if the Owens situation can be worked out internally.

The only problem I have with  Cole's report is that "sources" at the Pro Bowl also told him that Owens refuses to talk to other members of the offense in the huddle, in the lockerroom and at team functions.

Considering who is at the Pro Bowl _ tight end Jason Witten, center Andre Gurode, tackle Flozell Adams and linebacker DeMarcus Ware _ it's not hard to connect the dots who one of the sources might be.

The problem with that opinion the Owens doesn't talk to members off the offense is his seemingly good relationships with receivers Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton and running back Marion Barber.

It's also true that Gurode was one of the players in Owens' corner during the snitch controversy toward the end of the season, according to my sources.

There is no question that Owens is having a problem with Witten and quarterback Tony Romo. But the notion that he doesn't talk to other players on offense is not true.

With Owens it's always something.

One school of thought says the Cowboys need to get rid of Owens because he's a bad influence on Williams, Crayton and Barber.

Now we have a report from sources at the Pro Bowl that the Cowboys need to get rid of Owens because he doesn't talk to other players on offense.

It can't be both.

I really agree with the facts that you have shared on this post. An interesting topic like this really enhances reader's mind to have more effective decisions over a certain issue.

I guess sometimes truth is stranger than fiction!

How many championships has Owens won? ZERO. So the notion that the Cowboys can't win without him is garbage. It's a myth. They will figure out how to win without his services. The Eagles figured out how to win without him. The 'Boys have the talent to win without him.
And even if they don't have his replacement this year, they will eventually find someone to take his place.

I am so sick of the T.O. drama being created by the media. It's obvious that there is a "get rid of T.O.campaign" being promoted in the media. The thing is if you want T.O. gone from Dallas you need to stop talking about him so much. As long as T.O. talk keeps going on Jerry is getting free Cowboy exposure and he absolutely loves that. So all the T.O. haters here is the words from the wise. "SHUT UP !"

If T.O. gets cut then happy days are here again! If my favorite team is going to miss the playoffs whether T.O. is on the team or not then I might as well like the players I'm rooting for. T.O = CANCER
And for all the Romo haters:

Cowboys' Record before Romo (since Aikman): 40-55 (.421 win%)...one winning season.

Cowboys' Record with Romo as the starter: 27-14 (.658 win%)...three winning seasons.

This is the worst ever example of journalism I have ever heard. How anyone can extract a worthwhile story from a "no comment" response is beyond me and should be fired as a columnist.
Hey Clarence, what was your last breaking story? That Jerry Jones is still making money? Earth shattering news. Apparently there is no news to report. That's news I'd be much more willing to read than this waste of space you call an article.

The Fans here hate the same people TO Hates so let play some football and please lets get rid of Tony Romo

Tony Romo is next to go

Clarence E. Hill Jr. aka piece of garbage journalist.

Hey Clare, Did they teach you in college that the response "no comment" means the question asked must be true ? Didn't they also teach you that to assume makes an ass out of you and yourself ? Clare , did you ever think that maybe Stephen Jones was out enjoying himself in the offseason, trying to enjoy a night on the town, and didn't want to invite communications with you at all, and by saying no comment, he just left you with no other avenue besides making up your own assumptions and spewing more garbage over the internet to meet your assignment quota. Your a real piece of work, and your act is old. All of you clown journalist should be fired, and I can only pray newsprint will go by the wayside soon in this messed up economy, so we are not subjected to your terrible writing skills.

This column is just another example of fraud journalism in america today. Every Ed Werder, JJT, Dyke Engel, and Clare Hill should be exposed for the jokes they are. It's clowns like you that are making TO out to be the bad guy, and you won't end until you cost the man his job by stirring up the fans, and instigating the Cowboys management to do what's perceived to be right for the team...give it up Hill..your game is weak, and you have no skills.I'm one true Cowboy fan that's not drinking the tainted Kool Aid.

T.O. hates Jason Witten.
T.O. hates Tony Romo
T.O. hates Jason Garrett
T.O. hated Bill Parcells
T.O. hated Todd Haley
T.O. hated Tony Sparano
T.O. hated Andy Reid
T.O. hated Donovan McNabb
T.O. hated Steve Mariucci
T.O. hated Jeff Garcia

Sensing a trend yet??

The sooner the Cowboys cut bait with Turdell Owens the better off they'll be.

Getting rid of Pacman and Tank Johnson has helped already. Keep it up by getting rid of Patrick Crayton and Roy "OU" Williams as well.

Addition by subtraction.

fmfnavdoc, you need to look in the mirror before you make judgment on an individual. i can't believe all these cowboys fans who are drinking the get rid of TO juice. it amazes me that if TO is let go who will step up to take his place. what player do the cowboys have that will keep defensive coordinators up at night trying to take that particular player out of the game plan. and you think 9-7 is bad, what will you say when the cowboys go 5-11 again and resemble the teams of dave campo in the '00, '01, '02 seasons when the cowboys was 5-11 for 3 straight seasons. you can't have your cake and eat it too. if you placing your hope on miles austin, don't hold your breath, austin is a role player and needs to be spotted, austin has not shown the ability to stay healthy. Uno is a possession receiver in the same mold as TO but as yet to play to his potenial, has only had one 1, 000 receiving yard season, therefore, witten will see the double team, leaving crayton and cowboy fans know how that turns out most of the time inconsistent. who will romo have f. jones is not an everydown back, choice does not have the speed to break it open and barber is a closer. unless jerry drafts a macklin from missouri (doubtful) a rookie that will bring some fear to the defense is wishful thinking. it amazes me how cowboy fans can easily drink the media kool aid without looking at the whole picture of the cowboys and yet are blind as a bat on what the real problem that exist on the cowboys. the players of the 60's,70's, 80's and the 90's are no longer. this is the 21st century the players in the nfl are not robots they are going to speak their minds when something is wrong period. so you might as well get used to it, that's the way it is in today's nfl, rather the cowboys win or lose.

You can't polish a turd...and T.O. is a huge turd!

Yes it can.

Clarence, since YOU are not in the huddle, locker room, etc., how do YOU know whether the reports are true?
