Free to start

Doug Free will replace Marc Colombo at right tackle, offensive line coach Hudson Houck said Wednesday. The Cowboys had considered several options, including moving right guard Leonard Davis, who played tackle at Arizona, to right tackle.

"I think you always look at two or three options and then pick the best one, and the best one is exactly what we’re doing," Houck said.

Colombo is expected to miss six weeks after having surgery to repair ligaments in his left ankle. He also broke his left fibula.

Free, a fourth-round pick in 2007, has never started a game. He replaced Flozell Adams at left tackle in mop-up duty against the Seahawks and then replaced Colombo on Sunday after Colombo was injured.

Free was not available in the locker room Wednesday.
