Wade's world

The chances of Wade Phillips returning as the Cowboys' coach next season are improving every day. Mike Holmgren is off the market, and Mike Shanahan might be. The Cowboys have 10 wins and are guaranteed at least one playoff game, maybe a home game.

Phillips is in the last year of his contract, but the Cowboys have an option year. Though owner Jerry Jones has not committed to picking up the option, he did give Phillips a vote of confidence after Sunday's 17-0 victory over the Redskins.

"I do not want to make a coaching change," Jones said. "This is not the time, with what we've got in place, with our personnel, with what we've got going with our schemes, with what we've got going with the staff. It's not in the best interest of the Cowboys right now to make a change."

Who knows what "right now" means? Does it mean not today, but maybe at the end of the season? Does it mean not this season? Stay tuned.
