Rooting for the Frogs

When they play each other, Mountain West Conference opponents are obviously rivals. But when one of their own goes to a BCS bowl, they become fans.

TCU defeated BYU 38-7 in the regular season, but when the Frogs played Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl, they had nothing but fans in Provo, Utah.

“We were all rooting for TCU and I really thought they were going to win,” BYU quarterback Max Hall said at the NFL scouting combine. “Obviously they did not have the night they wanted to. TCU lost the game but still had a good showing for us.”

One correction on Hall. In this space two days ago, we said that Hall had broken Ty Detmer’s passing records at BYU. He actually broke Detmer’s record for games won as a starting quarterback.

“I always said  when I got to BYU the most important thing I wanted to do is win as many football games as I could,” Hall said. “And I think I accomplished that winning 32 football games and that being the most in BYU history.”
