Steve Octavien was a third-string outside linebacker behind DeMarcus Ware and Victor Butler on the depth chart last season. He was moved inside after the season. The Cowboys have a glut of linebackers, with Brandon Williams and Stephen Hodge coming back after spending their rookie seasons on injured reserve, and the drafting of second-rounder Sean Lee.
Bobby Carpenter could be traded, but Jason Williams and Lee are going to be the backups. So Octavien, despite his outstanding special teams skills, will face an uphill battle to make the final roster.
