Second-year player Robert Brewster started at right tackle in place of Marc Colombo on Saturday night. He played left tackle with the second team. He played 48 plays against the Chargers and held his own, according to offensive line coach Hudson Houck.
Tony Romo was hit once in 17 plays against the Chargers. It was a blitz up the middle that got to the quarterback, which Houck made clear was not Brewster’s fault.
“The coaches had faith in me, and they knew I could do it,” said Brewster, who missed all of last season with a torn pectoral muscle. “I just went out there and did my job.”
Veteran Alex Barron (ankle) returned to practice Monday. He has made 74 career starts, and Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Barron will start at right tackle against the Texans.
“Any time you’re on the team, you want to play,” Barron said. “Unfortunately, Marc is hurt. Marc is a great player. I’m just going to try to fill in and do the best I can.”
