Cowboys will reduce roster this week

The Cowboys have to reduce their roster by five players this week. By Tuesday afternoon, the Cowboys' roster will be down to 75 players from the current 80. Two moves will be housekeeping moves. Tight end John Phillips will be placed on injured reserve with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which he will have surgery to repair this week. The Cowboys also are expected to move linebacker Stephen Hodge to the physically unable to perform list. That means Hodge, who had microfracture knee surgery almost a year go, will miss at least the first six games of the regular season.

Those moves would leave the Cowboys to cut three players to get to the 75-player limit.
