Starting left guard Kyle Kosier could miss the season opener, but he could be the only starter out of the lineup on opening day. Kosier sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during practice Aug. 18. It is a 4-6 week injury, though Kosier is ahead of schedule.
Kosier will begin his rehab work this week. So the Cowboys will know more about where he is at the end of this week.
"Everybody knows his was the one we thought would be longer than the other ones," Phillips said. "He’s actually doing real well. It’s more of a 4-6 [week injury], more leaning toward the 6 [weeks]. I think they’re leaning back the other way a little bit, but I don’t know. We’ll see."
The Cowboys do expect right tackle Marc Colombo (knee), linebacker Keith Brooking (shoulder), defensive end Marcus Spears (knee) and safety Gerald Sensabaugh (shoulder) to be cleared for the season opener against the Redskins on Sept. 12.
