David Buehler had never kicked a game-winning field goal. Not in high school and not in college.
But he calmly nailed a 31-yarder on the final play of the game to give the Cowboys a 27-25 victory.
“Every kick is the same kick, whether it’s the first or fourth quarter,” Buehler said. “You can’t let the pressure mount and get you. You’ve just got to go out there and perform.”
Buehler made all four of his field-goal attempts Thursday, also hitting from 51, 45 and 40, to finish 10-of-11 in the preseason. His only miss was a 49-yarder.
As happy as Buehler was with the performance, however, he wasn't as thrilled as Jerry Jones.
"I just really would have played this game, would have staged it, put the air conditioning on, opened the door to create those circumstances for Buehler to get that opportunity," Jones said. "And right at the end, that [game-winner] and some of the other ones. That was worth the ball game for us to see him step up here and make those kicks. We’ve got us a kicker.”
