Wide receiver Miles Austin is the player who will get a contract extension from the Cowboys before the league and the players decide on a new labor agreement, vice president Stephen Jones said.
It's a long list of players whose contracts are up at the end of the season. In any other year, the Cowboys may have signed three or four more to contract extensions already. The players include safety Gerald Sensabaugh, guard Doug Free, defensive ends Jason Hatcher, Marcus Spears and Stephen Bowen and receiver Sam Hurd.
But because of the uncertain labor situation, Jones said they all will have to wait. He said Miles Austin was the best of the bunch and the team's only priority of getting something done now.
"We have a lot of guys up," Jones said. "We can't do what we normally do and sign three or four other guys. Not knowing what the system is going to be is difficult. We have a lot of guys we are going to have to deal with when things get ironed out."
