The Cowboys are third in the NFL with 13 false-start penalties, and that is an area of concern for Wade Phillips. With Jon Kitna replacing the injured Tony Romo, the Cowboys have to adjust to a different snap count.
“He has good command of the huddle, snap count, those kind of things,” Phillips said. “His snap count is a little different which bothers me a little bit in that we had some troubles with false starts and those kind of things.
“We’ve worked hard on that. We’ve concentrated on that. We certainly don’t want any penalties. But a new quarterback and a different count, everybody’s got to concentrate and focus more.”
In his two seasons in Dallas, Kitna has had some problems with the snap. He and center Andre Gurode have worked hard on that this week.
“You just have to adjust,” Gurode said. “Different cadence, different system. You’ve got to spend time after practice, before practice to make sure you’re on the same page and that’s what we’re doing.”
