Herring in Houston today

Cowboys linebackers coach Reggie Herring is interviewing in Houston today and is expected to be named the Texans new linebackers coach sometime this week. The Cowboys gave Herring, who is under contract for 2011, permission to interview with the Texans. Houston hired former Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips as their defensive coordinator last week.

Texans offensive assistant Bruce Matthews is back in his office in Houston and is not commenting on his visit to Valley Ranch on Monday. Matthews interviewed for the Cowboys' newly created position of assistant offensive line coach. Former Cowboys tight end Dan Campbell had a follow-up interview for the position yesterday.

The Cowboys still have several openings, including defensive line and receivers. The Browns are expected to allow defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, linebackers coach Matt Eberflus and defensive line coach Bryan Cox to leave. They served under Rob Ryan in Cleveland the past two years. Ryan will be the Cowboys' new defensive coordinator, though his hiring has not been made official yet.

Broncos receivers coach Adam Gase interviewed with Jason Garrett on Monday to replace Ray Sherman, whose contract was not renewed.
