Cowboys to interview Auburn quarterback Cam Newton

The Cowboys have been projected to be targeting a cornerback, tackle or defensive end with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 draft.

But could they be setting their sights on a bigger fish?

According to at least two members of the front office, the Cowboys will interview Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Cam Newton of Auburn during the NFL Combine this weekend.

The move is more about covering their bases and doing their due diligence in case Newton is available. He is projected to be picked in the top five, possibly as high first overall by the Panthers and is being considered heavily by the Bills at No. 3.

Other possible targets for the No. 9 pick who the Cowboys will likely interview this weekend are Nebraska cornerback Prince, Alabama defensive tackle Marcel Dareus and North Carolina defensive end Robert Quinn.
