Panthers will consider Cam

The Panthers have “8-10” players in consideration for the No. 1 overall pick, including Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. Carolina drafted Jimmy Clausen in the second round last year, but that won’t stop them from at least taking a long, hard look at Newton, according to new coach Ron Rivera.
“That will be part of the process we go through to see how he fits what we want to do,” Rivera said Thursday. “As far as skill set goes, the young man has a tremendous talent. He has natural size and can run and has a tremendous arm. He’s got a good pocket presence already. I think he’s well on his way.

“We’re going to go to his workout [on his Pro Day]; we’re going to bring him in obviously [for a visit] and will go through that whole process to try to get a feel for how he learns. There are several guys we will go through that process as well. He’s not the only guy.”
