The Cowboys received an additional draft choice Friday, getting the 251st overall selection as a compensatory pick. The seventh-rounder is the 29th compensatory pick the Cowboys have been awarded since 1994.
A team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. Thirty-two compensatory choices were awarded to 23 teams this year. That means there will be 253 choices in the April 28-30 draft.
Carolina received three draft picks, including a third-rounder, as compensatory picks. The Panthers lost Julius Peppers, among others, in free agency.
