Wes Phillips impresses Cowboys

No one can say any longer that it is his last name that is keeping Wes Phillips around Valley Ranch. Now that his father, Wade, is in Houston, Wes is making a name for himself.

Wes remained on Jason Garrett's staff even after Wade was fired last season, and Garrett promoted Phillips to assistant offensive line coach after conducting several interviews with other candidates.

"I think a lot of him as a coach and as a person," Garrett told reporters, including the Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill, at the NFL owners meetings in New Orleans on Tuesday. "I am a huge fan of Wes Phillips. He has been my right-hand guy for the last four years. He has been our offensive quality control coach. He does a great job of making my life better and helping the football team. He worked with the receivers a couple of years ago. This past year, he worked with the offensive line. You are looking for opportunities to get a guy like that more involved. We feel like we have been able to do that by making him the assistant offensive line coach, a position we have never had within the organization. He is a very good football coach."
