Cowboys add a RB out of necessity

The Cowboys have added Grambling running back Frank Warren, the school's all-time leading rusher who gained 1,592 yards last season. But it was more out of necessity.

Tashard Choice could miss 2-4 weeks with a strained calf muscle, and DeMarco Murray is on the non-football injury list with a hamstring injury that could keep him out two weeks.

Choice and Murray are being counted on to spell starter Felix Jones.

"I think we have a good crew of backs, but it’s a limited crew right now," running backs coach Skip Peete said. "Felix has been taking a lot of reps, which should be good for him. We’ll start working some of the other guys in there."

Lonyae Miller, who was moved up from the practice squad late last season, and rookie free agent Phillip Tanner have been getting a lot of work the meantime.

"If you think about how we space out the off-season, there's a rookie minicamp; there's all these OTAs, and those guys haven't had the opportunity to get involved in those," Garrett said. "It's a little bit like a crash course... for some of these young guys to grow in this system."
