Buehler says he must be patient with injury, even as Bailey gets all the kicks

David Buehler doesn’t want to be missing time as he recovers from a hip injury, but he knows it will be worth it to take it slow. Rookie kicker Dan Bailey will handle the PATs, field goals and kickoffs in Sunday’s preseason game against the San Diego Chargers.

“Obviously it’s hard because I want to get out there and compete,” he said. “Dan’s getting the opportunities and I’m not while I’m on the sidelines. That’s what drives me to get better, get healthy and get back on the field as fast as possible.”

Buehler said it’s his first experience with this kind of injury, a strain in his right hip flexor. He said he hasn’t been given a target date for a return. An MRI on Thursday revealed the strain.

“It’s tough, but I’ve got to be patient with it,” he said.
