The Cowboys and five-time Pro Bowl center Andre Gurode came to the expected decision on Monday.
The two sides have decided to part ways. There will be no pay cut to remain on the team.
He will be released.
“We have met with the team and the mutual decision is to move on,” Gurode’s agent Kennard McGuire said.
Gurode was due a $5.5 million base salary in 2011. He will now count $1.6 million against the salary cap this year in dead money and $1.6 million next year.
Phil Costa, who is out until the season opener with a sprained knee, is expected to replace him in the starting lineup.

It would be hard for the O-line to be worse than last year. I like the youth movement. The mistakes that the young guys make will be more than compensated for by their hunger. When we won Super Bowl #27 we were the youngest team in the NFL. Keep the youth movement going!

Gurode out and to be replaced with someone who is injured already, who is the genius who thought this up?!

gurode was not the best athlete for the position. The O-line will be fine after they settle in.Hey Winn- you're not suggesting we go after COW-CANCER T.O are you?? That would be a giant step backwards.Lets do like Tammy- stay loyal fans and keep the faith. I think Garrett's the best head coach we've had since Jimmy. And I'm a Parcells fan, I just think he got too old too put in the energy required.

MAYBE IF ITS SO EASY FOR SOME SO CALLED FANS TO DO IT.. THEN MAYBE U ARENT TRUELY A FAN!!!! I HAVE FATE EVERY SEASON AND IT ISNT ABOUT TO CHANGE NOW!!!!

Cutting a Pro Bowl offensive linemen never sounds like a good idea to me. Especially when it's my favorite team doing the cutting. Last time I checked we wern't overloaded with Pro Bowl level offensive linemen. DISLIKE!!!

It was not JJ? It was the same coaching staff that released T.O. and brought in that over rated WR that can't even start for Chicago? Looks like J.J. has not learned anything. And then sat around while their replacement did notta and T.O. out-performed Ocho Cinco with Cinncinatti? And T.O. is still available while this same coaching staff waits for some third WR to step forward? How much of this brilliance are we expected to endure?

Why not bring in some new players for our line if those other players were not doing there job get them out of dallas hope it was the right thing to do wait and see.

Ignorance is okay, stupidity is not. I have seen ignorant posts but not stupid ones. I enjoyed and learned from Cowboy Fan but though not aimed specifically at me did not appreciate being called an idiot since I am, in fact, ignorant about what a trade means. The Cowboys will be fine this year. Gurode's departure won't change that.

i can't believe that they couldn't get even a late round pick for a pro bowl center. really?

i think posting comments not only expose ignorance, but are just a really bad idea, and dont bode well for the general public of dfw

Jerry Jones just blew it with yet another asinine decision. We will now have THREE new starters on the offensive line this season. Tony Romo better have on his bullet proof vest because the teams we face this season will be taking potshots at him all season long. Frankly, Romo will not make it thru the season.

JJ didn't make the decision, it was the coaching staff going with who they thought gave them the best chance to win! If it were up to JJ Gurode would be starting for the next 5 years...

this guy has sucked for years now and is greatly over rated...nice job jerry...finally getting rid of dead weight...and we couldn't have traded him...no one would take on that over inflated salary for an old dude who has just cam off knee surgery...bravo...things are looking up

Do you idiot fans have any clue how player personell works? To trade him a team would have to pay his 5.5 million salary and accept his contract T&C's. No team is going to trade anything and pay that! Even if they want him, better to wait and pick him up for less. They know Jerry has to let him go. Costa pushed him out. You can't pay a back up 5.5 million! Besides he's 33 and just came off a knee surgery!

I think this is a gamble and a mistake. One in the hand is worth two in the bush. I HOPE this gamble pays off!!

That's right JJ. Why don't you pay me 1.6 million to sit on my a** and watch tv? You'd have been better off trading him for a 3rd or 4th round pick. At least that way you might get something in return.
