Jerry Jones rules out Newman; Jenkins and Tyron Smith leave practice early

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said cornerback Mike Jenkins and an offensive lineman left practice early, and he ruled out cornerback Terence Newman for the season opener against the New York Jets.

Jones declined to identify the offensive lineman who left practice early, but Jason Garrett confirmed it was right tackle Tyron Smith. Both are undergoing MRIs today.

Jenkins has been trying to work back from a shoulder stinger suffered early in training camp.

Newman didn't practice on Wednesday, and Jones said the Cowboys are preparing to play without him.

Man, it's sure nice for the head coach,Jaharry, to keep us aware which players will be active for the next game. I can't wait until he let's us know who will be on the 45 man active team this week end. Also great to know that we will have another team that MAY WIN 8 games this year, thanks to Jaharry.
