Terence Newman’s first game for new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan impressed the coach.
“I thought h e did really well,” Ryan said. “He’s a great pro. He’s so talented, and he’s smart and he’s tough. So he’s gonna play great. He’ll play better, the more confidence he ges in his muscles and all that.”
Now Newman has a chance to really impress the boss. Newman, fellow cornerback Mike Jenkins and the rest of the secondary will be charged with slowing down Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, who has scored six touchdowns in the first three games.
Ryan has confidence in Newman, who missed about six weeks with a groin injury before returning to game action last week.
“He’s a hell of a football player,” Ryan said. “You’ll see that this week. He’s matched up against a guy who’s four foot taller than him. We’ll see who gets the better.”
