Strong safety Abe Elam has plenty of special teams experience, but none as the personal protector on the punt team until he took over the duty full time two games ago against Washington.
“That was my first time ever doing it,” he said, including college and high school. "...My number was called, and I was excited about it. It's a new challenge for me. I've been glad that everything's been working itself out."
Elam, a six-year veteran, came in with 37 career special teams tackles, mainly from his rookie year with the Cowboys and his next two years with the New York Jets. He has three this season.
"It’s a challenge, because a punt can change the game," Elam said. "...We have to be on the same page, and we can’t give up any miscues on that part of the game."
