While owner Jerry Jones believes the Cowboys have enough to compete for a Super Bowl, vice president Stephen Jones questions the personnel on defense where the team has finished among the worst in team history against the past the past two years.
“Obviously we are not pleased with where we are on defense,” Stephen Jones said. “We got to get better over there. I don’t know that we got good enough talent to win over there. We have to improve it.”
Clarence Hill Jr.

I read all the comments and suggestions. Most were obvious. Bottom line is all organizations need a strong foundation to be successful. After that the rest falls into place and brings long term stability. Case in point the other "Arlington franchise." The Rangers have shown what can happen when U put the right people in the right place!

Please review the last 16 drafts the lack of talent is in the front office!
One idiot says we're not rebuilding, we have the qb and talent to win the SB. While idiot jr, says we need OL,DL,LB,SECONDARY, and WR, son that is rebuilding
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

I hope you can continue this type of hard work to this site in future also..Because this blog is really very informative and it helps me lot.

Forget the defense. We don't have enough front office talent to win period.
Nero is fiddling while Rome burns.

I dont care what the Defense does or doesn't...If you dont protect Romo its going to be a long season. Just ask Peyton and the Colts. We've dodged loosing our QB on several occasions putting incompetent guys out there to block for him. Its just an accident waiting to happen....Im going with the idea that we need to get strong up the middle first. That means a new C, 2 guards and a real NT...make the trenches the foundation of your team like Pitt, NY,SF has done...when will we ever figure this out...in another 16 years without winning a SB??

We have talent but they just didn't play up to potential last year. The offense put the defense in a bad position by not moving the ball. I think if we get DeCastro and Murray is healthy, and get our running game in the 4th quarter back to the way it was in the 90's, we can win the game by running out the clock instead of having to rely on a tired defense to protect a big 4th quarter lead.

Stephen Jones says,''We don't have enough talent to win on defense.'' That's true, but only thing I got to say is do something about it. Don't just say it, do it,because they always have a habit of saying get better at this get better at that. But they don't do it, only thing I got to say is I got to see it to believed it. I still don't trust both Jerry and Stephen what they say.

I reckon JJ is the only one that don't see it.
Posted by: David Lamon | February 27, 2012 at 07:58 PM
I guess he might as well SAY IT; everyone else has already SEEN IT! So, in F/A after getting Robinson and Spencer resigned; resign Morris to a one year deal; dump Felix, Ogletree, Kosier, Buehler, Marty B., Brookings, James, Newman and Ball! THEN get a Center (Hardiwick or Myers) to finish shoring up the Oline; try to pick up ONE DB; (maybe Spencer from the Niners). Then, use the draft to bring in MORE DB's and a pass rusher to help Ware (maybe Massaqoui) and look for "depth with the last three picks.

The Giants proved you don't need great DBs to have a good defense. A top flight pass rush will overcome avg secondary play,

Lets face it... the only thing bigger than Cowboys Stadium is Jerry's ego.

JJ needs to come out of his fantasy land and realize we need HELP!! especially on the DEFENSE.....can U say DB Jerry? Can u say DE Jerry? can U say Safety Jerry?
at least someone on the Cowboys front office knows what he is talking about.....keep up the good work Stephen, isn't honesty refreshing!

Yes of coure I agree our front is not that bad we need a top corner and safeties we do that you will see a different team

I'm a huge cowboys fan and can't wait till JJ finally steps down or loses his job for any other reason, so that Stephen Jones can take over and manage this team with common sense.

PREACH !!!!

Two comments, first you have the talent, but not the coaches or attitude to win!
second Jerry Jones wants to go abroad with his team, and that is where he should be, because he can't win in the U.S.A.
Sorry Arlington, Texas but you idiots allowed this idiot Jerry Jones to sell you the hog for all the benefits he gets. Maybe abroad, he could open another Papa Johns pizza or wings.

Simmer down now!! The fruit rearly falls far from the tree. Steven isn't a big difference from Jerry! If Jerry leaves today and Steven takes over, he'll name himself GM and we're at the same rodeo!
Posted by: Cowboy Fan | February 27, 2012 at 02:37 PM
I can't wait until Stephen Jones takes over for Jerry. Maybe then we'll resemble a true professional NFL team. No other owner crowns himself GM, then proceeds to totally suck at it, or goes onto the sidelines in the first quarter of a game to explain to the players the games' importance.
Thanks for your honesty, Stephen.

I agree that the defense sucks. But I differ from Mr. Jones, in the front 7. You have 1 1/2 pass rushers and 1 linebacker who is outstanding everyone else mediocre which means they are outplayed by good teams ny, philly etc. We need a good hard nose veteran ILB who can also defend passes and a fast corner plus a safety whocan cover
Posted by: michael fanner | February 27, 2012 at 02:09 PM
By questioning the talent on defense the message is: get better or else. JJ always praises all the players which sends the message: we're good enough.
All hail Stephen Jones for the first sign of a backbone in management. Think JJ will fire him now?

Stephen is the leveled headed exec for this team. He finally talked Jerry off the ledge about T.O. Now, he is speaking volumes about the defense...we know the problem is in the secondary. The front seven is solid...let us get a decent cornerback to replace Newman and shore up the safety position.

Finally somebody from the Cowboys brass speaks the TRUTH! JJ has been horrible at drafting and the Cowboys need major upgrades at CB and Safety just to compete with the big boys, let alone win. I'm a huge cowboys fan and can't wait till JJ finally steps down or loses his job for any other reason, so that Stephen Jones can take over and manage this team with common sense.
