COWBOYS ANNOUNCE 2012 SCHEDULE
The NFL announced the 2012 schedule Tuesday, and at least five national television appearances highlight the Dallas Cowboys upcoming season, including the season opener in New York on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The Cowboys schedule currently features four games that are going to be broadcast nationally in primetime, including two from Cowboys Stadium. In addition, Dallas will play seven games against six different teams that qualified for the 2011 playoffs.
In addition to the two primetime games at Cowboys Stadium and the club’s annual Thanksgiving Day national appearance against Washington on Fox this year, the Cowboys will make two additional national appearances, both on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys will be making their 74th appearance on Monday Night Football during the 2012 season (second most in NFL history behind Miami’s 78). No NFL team has won more MNF games than the 43 that have been won by the Cowboys.
The 2012 regular season opens for Dallas on Sept. 5 when the Cowboys visit the SuperBowl Champion New York Giants on NBC for a Wednesday night matchup. This season marks the fifth consecutive time that Dallas has opened on the road and theninth time since 2000. It is also the third straight season the Cowboys willopen the season in primetime. Dallas hits the road for a Week 2 bout at Seattle at 3:15 on Sept. 16. The Cowboys then open their home schedule against Tampa Bay at noon on Sept. 23. Dallas closes out the first quarter of the season with a Monday night home game against Chicago on Oct. 1 on ESPN.
Coming off the Monday night game, Dallas will hit its bye week, the second straight season with a bye week in Week 5 and third straight in Week 5 or earlier. Coming off the bye the Cowboys head to the east coast for back-to-back noon road games, first at Baltimore on Oct. 14 then at Carolina on Oct. 21. Dallas will close out October by hosting the N.Y. Giants on Oct. 28.
The Cowboys open November with a Sunday night road game on NBC in Atlanta on Nov. 4, followed by a Sunday afternoon contest in Philadelphia on Nov. 11. Following their consecutive road games, the Cowboys will be at home for three straight weeks. On Nov. 18 the Cleveland Browns come to town at noon followed by the annual Thanksgiving Day game on Nov. 22. This season, Dallas will host its NFC East rival Washington Redskins. Dallas closes out its home stretch with a divisional game against Philadelphia on Dec. 2 for its fourth primetime game.
The final four games of the season feature a Dec. 9 game in Cincinnati, followed by two home games - against Pittsburgh on CBS on Dec. 16 and against New Orleans on Dec. 23. Dallas will close out the 2012 regular season with a trip to Washington to face the Redskins.
