Safety Brodney Pool said he liked the camaraderie he, Felix Jones and Andre Holmes showed in their attempt to pass the conditioning test they failed on Sunday.
“We all pulled together, the three of us that were running it. We did a good job and knocked it out,” he said.
The three players passed the conditioning test Wednesday morning, each completing the required 20 reps of 60 yards in eight seconds, run in two sets of 10, with 30 seconds between each run and a longer break between sets.
“I wasn’t worried. I’m just happy that we got it over with and we get a chance to practice,” Pool said.
Holmes said, “I was disappointed. I said that the other day. I felt like I was ready for that. I was able to pass it today, so that’s all that matters.”
Coach Jason Garrett said none of the players will practice until Friday. The team is off Thursday.
Garrett said Pool and Holmes hurt themselves by long-distance running instead of sprinting in preparation for the test.
Pool said he was doing it to drop weight. He had been as high as 213 in the minicamp in June and wanted to be at 208.
“Now I’m 205. I’m comfortable with my weight,” he said.
Why had he gotten so heavy?
He smiled.
“I guess eating well,” Pool said. “Extra lifting, too. Protein shakes. All that added stuff. But I’m ready for the season. I’m ready to go out there and practice with my teammates.”
