Coale, Dunbar among the Cowboys' cuts as roster is reduced to 53

The Cowboys have reduced their roster to 53, with 23 cuts Friday. That doesn’t mean the roster is set. The Cowboys could churn the bottom of their roster with players cut by other teams.

The Cowboys, though, are hamstring a little by the fact that they play Wednesday. It is unrealistic to think a player they would sign this weekend could help them in the season opener.

“I think in some cases it [the early opener] alters it,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “You also have to think of this thing as a 16-game season. We picked up a receiver [Laurent Robinson] last year who didn’t play for us until about Week 3 and was pretty darn productive for us. It’s a long year. You have to manage the roster coming out of training camp, leading into Week 1, but you also have to make some decisions for the whole season. In some cases, it probably does impact that; in other cases, it probably doesn’t.”
