Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said veteran center Andre Gurode is on the team’s short list for a replacement center and the team does not anticipate having starting center Phil Costa (back injury) play in Monday’s game at Oakland. For now, that means offensive guard David Arkin _ who took most of the snaps as the first-team center in today's morning walkthrough _ projects to get a significant amount of playing time at center, where he’s never lined up in a game, at Oakland.
Garrett said right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau, who returned to workouts earlier this week from the PUP list (knee, hip), could serve as an emergency center, if needed, against the Raiders. So could tackle Pat McQuistan.
Garrett said he anticipates Costa being able to return to practice next week and take part in the team’s Aug. 18 game at San Diego.
In terms of exploring options for a veteran center, Garrett said: “Absolutely. We’re always revisiting short lists.” Gurode, a former Cowboys’ player, is “on the short list,” Garrett said.

Pretty much sums up how stupid Jerry Jones is. He let a 5 million solid centers salary get in the way of the playoffs. Yes, I believe if they would have kept Gurode, the Cowboys would have made the playoffs. Now he is a year older and they want to sign him. Are you seriuos?
