Holmes plays well after tentative start, takes lead in battle for No. 3 receiver

Receiver Andre Holmes three passes for 40 yards to catch the eye of the coaches in the preseason opener against the Raiders.

It certainly gives Holmes a good start in battle for the third receiver.

“I was able to make some plays,” Holmes said. “It felt to play and get in that game mode

It took a few plays for me to start playing. I was playing a little tentative but after a few plays I was able to feel a lot more comfortable. It felt good to be out there.”

Holmes felt tentative and nervous because this was his first game since college at tiny Hillsdale.

He feels he will be a lot more relaxed in the second preseason game against the Chargers next Saturday when he hopes to build on his performance.
