Linebacker Caleb McSurdy tore his Achilles tendon during Wednesday’s afternoon practice, as trainers initially feared, and will undergo season-ending surgery tomorrow in Dallas, coach Jason Garrett said today. McSurdy, a seventh-round pick from Montana, is expected to be placed on the team’s injured reserve list.
Coach Jason Garrett said he has yet to speak to McSurdy, who already has made the trip to Dallas. He called it a “tough injury” but one that can be overcome with proper rehabilitation.
“It is a tough injury,” Garrett said. “One of the things that all players need to understand is, all they can do is control what they can control. In his case, go get the surgery. Do exactly what our trainers and our medical people say in terms of rehab. And understand that you’re going to be back. You want to be back as good as you can be, as good as you were before you got hurt.”
Garrett described McSurdy as a “very conscientious” player who is capable of coming back strong for the 2013 season.
“We expect him to do that,” Garrett said. “He has to learn from his experiences here in the pre-season. He has to learn from watching the other guys during the regular season and come back in the spring and get ready to go again.”
