Not quite.
But very close.
“We’ve got 10 days to get even more prepared. Let’s put it like that,” cornerback Brandon Carr said after Saturday night’s preseason game against the St. Louis Rams. “We are going to take advantage of all the time we have until it’s time for the game. We are already getting some looks and seeing what types of things they’re doing. It’s 10 days away, and we’re 10 days away. Let’s put it like that.”
The Cowboys meet the New York Giants in the season opener on Sept. 5, a week from Wednesday.
There’s one more preseason game to play, against the Miami Dolphins this week, but the front-line defense is just about done playing. In the parts of three preseason games that they played, the Cowboys’ first-team defenders gave up only two field goals.
“We’re right on the verge,” linebacker Sean Lee said. “I think this week and a half, we really have to take advantage of getting our bodies right, getting in the weight room, and taking care of your body. But also cleaning up the little details. I think we’ve gotten better each week, but if we’re going to play the Giants and be successful against a really good team, then we’re going to have to have all the details cleaned up.”
Rookie cornerback Morris Claiborne said, “Are we great? No. We’ve got a long way to go. I know these guys in this locker room are committed to putting the time into it these last couple of weeks, getting better, and when the time comes, we’ll see.”
