Ogletree says he never believed he was entitled to No. 3 receiver job, considering Cowboys let him become a free agent

Kevin Ogletree has helped his case to be the Cowboys’ No. 3 receiver with his play in the last two games.

But he never thought it was his job to lose, he said.

“I definitely didn’t have any sense of entitlement that anything was mine,” he said after Saturday night’s preseason game against the St. Louis Rams. “I was a free agent trying to help a team in the offseason, and for a little bit, it wasn’t clear.”

The Cowboys did not tender an offer to the fourth-year receiver, leaving him to try free agency. He and the Cowboys eventually agreed to a one-year contract for 2012, but Ogletree came much cheaper to the team that way.

The Cowboys risked little to bring him back. But in the last two games, Ogletree has caught nine passes for 135 yards.

“For a while, I was not even sure where I would be,” Ogletree said. “But no, I didn’t have that sense of entitlement. I just had a worker’s mentality, which has kind of been my main focus, and just coming to work.”
