Tight end Colin Cochart's stay in Dallas wasn't sweet, but it was short. The Cowboys claimed him on waivers from the Bengals on Sept. 1 as insurance in case Jason Witten was unable to play against the Giants.
Cochart didn't make the trip to New Jersey, and Witten played 53 plays against the Giants after being cleared by doctors a day earlier. The Cowboys had considered releasing Cochart on game day and promoting running back Lance Dunbar from the practice squad to be a returner. Instead, they waited until Tuesday to release the tight end.
A source said the team is looking outside Valley Ranch for a 53rd player, though they have not signed anybody yet.
