Crawford says he was worried about making roster because he 'didn't get a lot of stats'

Rookie defensive end Tyrone Crawford made the team, but he wasn’t so sure. He only had one sack in the preseason, to go along with five tackles and one quarterback hit.

“I didn’t get a lot of stats,” he said.

No matter. The Cowboys saw more than enough potential and production in the third-round choice out of Boise State for a spot on the 53-man roster.

But he said he was never convinced until he made it.

“It always worries me,” he said of not putting up numbers. “Even in college, if I didn’t have a good game, I’d be a little bit angry after the game. But it happens with football. I know that.”

Crawford said he did gain confidence with each game he played, and he was thrilled to get his first sack, in the preseason finale against Miami. But even then, he didn’t go too wild.

“I was a little bit under the weather that day,” he said. “I didn’t celebrate that much. Just didn’t feel good.”
