Jenkins, Witten practice; still deemed day-to-day for Giants

Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins and tight end Jason Witten practiced this morning. Both are still considered day-to-day in efforts to play in Wednesday’s opener against the New York Giants, although a return date of Week Two against Seattle (Sept. 16) appears to be more likely for both players.

Witten’s availability will be determined by a CT scan scheduled Tuesday. Jenkins’ status will be determined based on progress between now and game time, said coach Jason Garrett.

“We’re going to take Jenks’ situation day by day. We’ll see how he does,” Garrett said. “He made progress (Sunday). He hasn’t practiced a lot of football. But he moved around fairly well. He’s played a lot of games in this league, so he’s one of those more veteran players who you feel that you have a little more confidence in to play in a game like this. We’ll evaluate him after his work yesterday, see how he does today and make that decision as we get closer to game time.”
