Dez Bryant said he was trying to make a play when he reached up to catch a punt at the 15-yard line with 12 seconds left before halftime and the Cowboys trailing 7-3.
But he wouldn’t do that again.“Oh, man, I just had it in my mind I had to make a play,” he said. “I didn’t know where I was on the field. If I could do it all over again, I would have just let it roll in the end zone.”
Bryant nearly got himself in trouble on another punt return. He drew a personal foul penalty because he retaliated after a rough return.
“I got kicked. I got a little bit of frustration,” he said. “It’s just in the heat of the moment. You don’t want to think about it. I shouldn’t have retaliated, but things happen.”
Bryant had only two catches for 14 yards a week after making 13 catches for 95 yards. He dropped a pass in the end zone, unable to hang on to an over-the-shoulder throw.
“I’ve just got to do a better job getting the guy up off of me and getting myself an opportunity to make a clean catch on the play,” he said.
He also spent time on the sideline getting evaluated for a concussion.
