Nose tackle Jay Ratliff returned to practice for the first time since spraining his ankle in an Aug. 25 exhibition game against the Rams.
Defensive end Kenyon Coleman, who missed the past two games with a knee injury, also was at the team's short practice before a four-day weekend. Rookie safety Matt Johnson (hamstring/back) had his first practice of the regular season, and center Phil Costa (back) and linebacker Alex Albright (neck) also were dressed for the workout.
Tight end John Phillips (ankle), punter Chris Jones (knee), center Ryan Cook (hamstring) and linebacker Anthony Spencer (pectoral muscle) were among those not practicing.
