Phil Costa practices; Ryan Cook continues rehab

Center Ryan Cook (hamstring) worked on the side at the start of practice, while Phil Costa (back) was with the first-team unit. Costa is expected to return to his starting role this week.

Costa played only three plays in the season opener before tweaking his back against the Giants. He missed the past three games. Cook injured his hamstring during the Cowboys' last game, against the Bears.

"I think he’s progressing," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said of Costa. "We’ll evaluate him as the week goes on."

Linebacker DeMarcus Ware (hamstring) and receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) also were doing some rehab work after team stretching. Linebacker Anthony Spencer (pectoral) was not on the practice field in the part open to the media. The Cowboys started Victor Butler in Spencer's spot in their last game. Alex Albright could start this week if Spencer is unable to go.

Nose tackle Jay Ratliff (ankle), defensive end Kenyon Coleman (knee), safety Matt Johnson (hamstring/back) and Albright (stinger) were practicing.

Chris Jones continues to recover from his knee injury, with Brian Moorman expected to do the punting at least one more week.
